Introduction
What is UPTAC Counselling?
UPTAC means Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling. It is the counselling system used for admission to eligible programmes offered by AKTU-affiliated institutions, constituent institutions and related faculties.
For the 2026–27 academic session, the notified process is divided into main counselling and special counselling. Different programmes use different entrance examinations. A candidate should therefore check the exact course row instead of assuming that JEE Main, CUET and Class 12 marks receive equal priority everywhere.
The policy notification explains the broad admission rules, fees, priorities, rounds, withdrawal and reporting requirements. It does not by itself provide every live deadline for each course and round. Those operational dates are announced separately through the official counselling system.
Use official live information
Check the official counselling portal for current schedules, registration windows, certificate rules, seat matrices, allotment results, reporting deadlines and later changes. This page explains the notified process but does not replace official instructions.

Preference rules
Who Can Participate?
For the main counselling preference described in the notification, priority is given to candidates who satisfy at least one of these conditions:
Eligibility for a particular degree still depends on the programme, qualifying examination, applicable regulatory rules, entrance-exam priority and certificates. Meeting a state-preference condition does not automatically make a candidate eligible for every course.
UP and other states
Rules for Uttar Pradesh and Other-State Candidates
Main counselling first applies the notified preference to eligible Uttar Pradesh-category candidates. After that process, seats that remain vacant may be offered through special counselling to candidates from Uttar Pradesh and other states.
Other-state admission is vacancy-based
Do not assume that an other-state candidate receives the same first-round preference as an eligible Uttar Pradesh candidate. Special counselling depends on vacant seats and official conditions.
Understand the phases
Main Counselling vs Special Counselling
Primary admission phase
- Conducted before special counselling.
- Contains four rounds.
- Uses the first-priority entrance examination for the relevant programme.
- Entrance-examination-based registration is available only in the first main round.
- Registration fee is ₹1,000.
- Document verification, choice filling and allotment are online.
- Physical reporting is compulsory at the prescribed stage.
Vacant-seat phase
- Conducted after main counselling for remaining vacant seats.
- Fresh registration may be permitted for ₹1,000.
- UP and other-state candidates may participate under notified conditions.
- It may include candidates who did not register earlier, received no seat or withdrew online.
- Reported main-round candidates may receive a choice-upgradation opportunity.
- Physical reporting is compulsory after the applicable special-round allotment.
Special counselling is not guaranteed for every programme. It is conducted according to remaining vacancies and official decisions.
Step-by-step
Complete UPTAC Counselling Process
Check course eligibility
Confirm the programme, qualifying examination, entrance-exam priority, category requirements, domicile rules and any course-specific conditions.
Complete online registration
Register through the official UPTAC 2026 counselling portal during the permitted registration window. Use your own email address and mobile number.
Pay the ₹1,000 registration fee
Pay the notified application amount online through the counselling portal. Save the payment receipt and transaction reference.
Upload documents and complete verification
Upload clear, readable documents. Online document verification must be completed before choice filling becomes available.
Fill and lock choices
Select institution-and-branch combinations in your genuine preference order. Review the sequence carefully and save the locked-choice record.
Check the online seat-allotment result
Allotment depends on eligibility, entrance merit, category, applicable preference, seat availability and the order of submitted choices.
Pay the seat-confirmation amount
When a seat is allotted for the first time, pay ₹20,000 for General/EWS/OBC or ₹12,000 for SC/ST through the official portal.
Complete physical reporting
Report to the allotted institution at the prescribed stage with required original documents, photocopies, allotment records and institutional fees.
Do not skip physical reporting
Failure to report at the notified stage can cause the allotted seat to be treated as vacant.
Payment details
Registration and Seat-Confirmation Fees
Paid online during permitted registration.
- The registration fee and seat-confirmation amount are separate payments.
- The confirmation amount becomes payable when a seat is allotted for the first time.
- The confirmation amount is not the complete college fee.
- The allotted institution may require its prescribed institutional fees during reporting.
Leaving an allotted seat
Withdrawal and Refund Rules
The notification provides an online withdrawal option after allotments from Round 2 onward. Candidates should use only the official portal method and should not depend on verbal messages to an institution or agent.
- Use the counselling portal’s withdrawal option within the permitted period.
- ₹1,000 is deducted from the seat-confirmation amount.
- The remaining amount is refunded online according to the notified process.
- Keep the payment receipt, withdrawal confirmation and transaction details.
- No exact refund-credit date should be assumed unless the portal publishes one.
Admission completion
Physical Reporting Rules
Reporting connected with Round 4
- Report to the allotted institution at the notified stage.
- Carry required records and institutional fees.
- Failure to report can make the seat vacant.
- The candidate will not retain a claim over that seat.
Reporting after applicable allotment
- Physical reporting is compulsory after each applicable special-round allotment.
- Special-round deadlines may be short.
- Check the portal and allotted institution immediately after allotment.
Allotment is not final admission by itself
An online allotment letter alone does not complete admission. Complete payment, verification and physical reporting requirements within the notified time.
Certificates and support
Medical Fitness and Reservation
- Every candidate must submit a fitness certificate issued by a competent medical authority before admission.
- Eligible persons with disabilities may receive reservation and facilities according to applicable Uttar Pradesh Government orders.
- Category reservation follows the latest applicable Uttar Pradesh Government orders.
- Candidates must use acceptable, valid certificates issued by the correct authority.
- Check the current brochure for certificate format, issuing authority, validity period and upload requirements.
Do not use an unofficial medical-certificate or category-certificate format merely because it appears on a private website.
Additional provisions
Other Important Admission Rules
Admission through counselling
Notified seats in AKTU-affiliated and related institutions are to be filled through counselling, apart from the stated management-quota exception. Avoid the inaccurate claim that no exception exists under any circumstance.
Rural weightage
Rural weightage will follow the applicable Uttar Pradesh Government order referenced in the notification.
NRI and Kashmiri quota
These seats are to be filled through centralized counselling according to the notified entrance and qualifying-examination merit priorities.
Foreign, PIO, OCI and CIWGC candidates
Foreign Nationals, Persons of Indian Origin, Overseas Citizens of India and Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries must satisfy qualification-equivalence and regulatory requirements.
Seat matrix
A course-wise and category-wise seat matrix is prepared and uploaded to the counselling system. Use the latest matrix before locking choices.
Final admission deadline
No admission is permitted after the officially fixed final date. Do not rely on an agent promising admission after the deadline.
Excess fee or refusal of admission
A complaint may be examined where an institution demands more than the prescribed fee or refuses admission after valid allotment. The outcome depends on verification by the competent authority.
Regulatory eligibility
Qualifying conditions must remain consistent with the relevant regulator, such as AICTE, CoA or PCI, depending on the programme.

Decision making
Choice-Filling Strategy
- Fill enough realistic choices. Too few options increase the chance of receiving no seat.
- Use genuine preference order. Put the college-and-branch combination you truly prefer above lower choices.
- Do not trust list position. A college appearing first on a portal is not automatically better.
- Compare facts. Check approval, affiliation, fee structure, location, transport, hostel, faculty, labs and verifiable placement data.
- Use three levels. Include ambitious, moderate and safer choices based on your rank and official historical data.
- Decide branch priority first. A famous college with a branch you do not want may be a worse personal choice than a suitable branch elsewhere.
- Review before locking. One wrong order can change the allotted seat.
- Save evidence. Download or print your final locked-choice list.
- Protect credentials. Never share your password or OTP with an agent.
- Use current data. Old opening and closing ranks are guidance, not a promise.
- Check the latest seat matrix. Available branches and category seats can change.
- Understand portal options. Read the official meaning of freeze, float, upgrade or equivalent options before selecting one.
